I applied to this job electronically the day it was advertised. They emailed me back the next day to say that they already had a short list. This seems to be censure-worthy behavior, in addition to being disgustingly ironic in light of the fact that the AOS is ethics.

I had the exact same experience as the previous poster. I suspect it was because I checked the "no" box for the question "Are you a Christian?" in the online application form.
Additionally, this school has recently been in the news after firing a soccer coach when they found out she was gay.

Which Belmont job is this for? There's one in ethics and one in social/political. I got an email last week that they sent to all of the short list candidates asking for letters, teaching evaluations, etc. Perhaps this is the other job because it seems odd that they would have received all of this material so quickly and have narrowed it down even further.

There are two jobs listed on their HR site: AOS History of Phil and AOS Ethics. For both, I got the immediate rejection the other people got- I applied over a weekend each time and got rejected early the following Monday morning (10am and 11am). If that wasn't upsetting enough, the same day I got the rejection for AOS ethics Belmont reposted the ad for AOS ethics on at least the Chronicle and HigherEdJobs. I too suspect I was immediately dismissed for checking the "no" box.
